Douglas A. Barry - Truck Accident Attorney

The Allen Law Firm’s President, Doug Barry, has an outstanding record of success in handling large truck and bus accident cases including many involving catastrophic and fatal injuries. Dedicated to obtaining justice for his clients, Doug gathers and then studies the relevant facts in a client’s case to pinpoint and then exploit the opposing side’s areas of vulnerability.  At the same time, he maximizes the strengths of his own client’s case by finding expert witnesses with extensive experience in the trucking industry to testify on his client’s behalf.

A litigator for over twenty five years, Doug began his legal career as a prosecutor and also worked as a special agent for the FBI. Since 1993, his practice has focused exclusively on plaintiff’s personal injury law. He takes time to get to know his clients and learn how their injuries have affected them and changed their everyday lives. It is obvious to juries that Doug believes in his clients and takes a personal interest in their welfare.  This, in turn, translates into successful jury verdicts such as the $10,000,000 verdict Doug obtained for a client who suffered traumatic brain and leg injuries.

One of Doug’s most satisfying trial results occurred when he obtained a $3,719,358.86 verdict for the bereft husband and two children of a small town librarian who was struck and killed by a Greyhound bus. He currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Association of Plaintiff’s Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America, an organization of attorneys who have joined together to help eliminate unsafe and illegal interstate trucking practices.

Doug is recognized in the publication Best Lawyers in America and has been named in Super Lawyers, a Virginia magazine which recognizes the top 5% of lawyers in the state as selected by their peers. He is also a Past President of the Hanover County Bar Association.  He has served on the Faculty of the Commonwealth of Virginia EMS Symposium and currently teaches at local EMS programs across the state.

Doug believes in the importance of community service.  He is a past President of Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters and is a former board member of the Patrick Henry YMCA.
